Early Travels
Road trips throughout Mexico in the early 1980s instilled in us a love of Mexican art and culture. Our initial plan had been to open an international folk art gallery, But after years of travel around Mexico, we realized that the art of this beautiful country had captured our hearts.
We began to develop relationships with the artisans we met, and we drove back to Mexico from Seattle every few months. In the beginning, we faced many challenges yet our trips were certainly fun and memorable. We learned Spanish while working with the artisans, building trust and friendships along the way.
Opening the Store
The store was first opened in the heart of historic Pike Place Market in early 1991.
We have been in business for over 30 years now, and still find it exciting and emotionally rewarding on a daily basis.
Our Mission
Our mission remains the same from when Milagros was first opened — to support the wonderful artisans of Mexico and share their work, showcase the varied regional styles, and maintain authentic quality.
Our practices haven’t changed either. We continue to visit Mexico as much as possible considering the post pandemic restrictions, forever in search of art new or old to add to our collections. The love we have for Mexican folk art, culture, and people grows each trip.
We’re always thrilled to tell stories about our travels, and the many adventures we’re continuing to experience in Mexico.
